GCSE Top Grade Record Results for Lingfield Notre Dame School

Year 11 students at Lingfield Notre Dame have broken all school records with a superb set of GCSE results. Of the seventy-eight candidates in the year group, all achieved a minimum of 5 A*-C passes, but in addition to this a staggering nineteen achieved straight A*/A grades in all of their exams. In total, 62% of grades were A*/A, and over 88% were A*-B. Head of Year Mr Jonathan Grant said; “I am so proud of the amazing success of these students. After all their hard work over the past two years they thoroughly deserve it.”

The top scoring student was Richard Thorburn who notched up an incredible twelve A* grades; another school record. Other impressive performances came from the following students: Benjamin Allen (8A*, 2A); Rosamund Attree (10A*, 1A); Kate Beare (7A*, 3A); George Bingham (5A*, 6A); Timothy Copeland (6A*, 5A); Christabel Cutting; (5A*, 4A); Stefan Davies (6A*, 4A); Jessica Dunn (6A*, 6A); Rebecca Ellis (9A*, 2A); Matthew Griffin (4A*, 6A); Emma Hipkiss (10A*, 1A); Elizabeth Jenn (10A*, 1A); Chloe Kealey (8A*, 3A); Ian McCheyne (6A*, 6A); Tom Munday (6A*, 5A); Frederick Nevison (2A*, 8A); Sebastian Nottage (4A*, 7A) and Jack O’Donnell (1A*, 10A).

Principal Nuala Shepley had high praise for all of the students. “I am so pleased with the achievements of these remarkable young men and women. They have really done the school proud with these outstanding results and are a credit to their parents and the staff who have supported them throughout. I look forward to seeing the majority of them in the Sixth Form and wish each and every one of them continued success in the future.”

A* Exam Success for Lingfield Notre Dame School Students

The staff and students of Lingfield Notre Dame School are simply overjoyed with this summer’s stunning record A level results. In addition to maintaining the school’s 100% pass rate, the number of students achieving the new A* grade classification far exceeded all expectation. In order to achieve this standard, candidates have to gain 90% or above in a subject. Remarkably, two students, Stephanie Ellis and Head Boy Charlie Izard gained A*s in all of their A2 subjects. In total, the students in the year group gained 19 A* grades.

Exceptional performances were also produced by a third of the year group who achieved straight A*/A grades, and half of all exams taken by the graduating Year 13 were of this top level; breaking even last year’s record result. 84% of grades achieved were of A*-B grade standard and as a consequence, all students who applied to university have been successful.

Whilst all of the students have much to be proud of, outstanding performances of note include: Elyse Atkinson (A*A*A); Robyn Brown (A*AA); Christiana Campbell (A*AA); Peter Colley (A*AA); Stephanie Ellis (A*A*A*A*); Abigail Henry (A*A*A); Alexander Henry (A*AA); Head Boy Charlie Izard (A*A*A*); Head Girl Charlotte Jones (A*AA); Amy Parkin-Brown (A*AA) and Deputy Head Boy Benjamin Reygate (AAA).

Euphoric Principal Nuala Shepley exclaimed “I am absolutely delighted that the hard work of our students has paid off and produced this superb outcome. The commitment and dedication that is needed to produce a set of results like these cannot be underestimated. Staff and parents are so proud of what has been achieved here and must share in the success of our young men and women. In these difficult economic times, such excellent qualifications will undoubtedly open up wonderful opportunities ahead for them at university and we look forward very much to hearing about their progress in the future.”

The squad all played extremely well, and special mention should go to Felix Bos who scored a sublime goal in the final, to Matt Griffin who made a series of great saves in the penalty flick competition and to Richard Thorburn who scored the winning flick to win the competition. This achievement is one of the highest accolades senior hockey has achieved at this school, and tops off our best hockey season in recent history. Year 6 Win ISA National Netball Tournament

Our Year 6 girls travelled to Rugby, Warwickshire on Wednesday 24th March to compete in the ISA National Netball Tournament.

Riding high on the success of winning the Regional Tournament, they started these Competition Finals with confident and determined play. The girls faced three group matches to start the tournament and the first match was a tough encounter against Howe Green House, the London North Regional Champions, which LNDS won 8 - 4. This was followed by comfortable victories against Virgo Fidelis and Salterford House, with scores of 15 - 0 and 16 - 1 respectively.

In the Quarter-Final LNDS met The Grove and with some superb play our girls won 12 - 2.

In the Semi-Final we faced Ursuline, who we defeated at this stage last year. It was another close game and the scores were level at 5 – 5 at the end of full time. However, in extra time our girls totally dominated their opponents with fast and determined play, securing a fantastic 10 - 5 win.

In the Final, ironically, we had to play Howe Green House who we had played in the group stages, but had progressed through the tournament as runners - up. Another superb performance by LNDS in a great match, resulted in our girls being crowned ISA National Netball Champions with a 7 - 5 victory.

We are extremely proud of all the girls and would like to say a huge well done to; Alisha Bowen, Lucy Bycroft, Hermione Charlton, Emma Cording, Hayley Evans, Vicki Fudge, Georgia Jefferies and Ella Rousell for a superb team performance

Thank you to all the parents who came along to support and help make the day very special and a big thank you to Mrs Major for all her hard work.

There were 15 different schools in the tournament and the girls played a number of games in a round robin format which they won convincingly. They then went through to the Cup competition qualifying round where it got progressively tougher. It was end to end pressure from all squads, but the U13 team proved unbeatable!! They finally won the cup and took the shield home which made Lingfield Notre Dame and Miss Page exceptionally proud. I would like to thank all the girls: Isabel Hazelton (Cap), Lauren Norris, Ellen Wilson, Hannah Edwards, Jaynie Clayton, Olivia Leach, Alexandra Fudge and Demi Barnes for all their hard work over the last season.

Junior Maths Team Challenge competition

Congratulations to our Junior Maths Team Challenge students who went to Ardingly College on Thursday 4th March to take part in the Regional UKMT Team Finals and excelled themselves in gaining third place. Of the 26 schools competing, there was competition from independent and state schools across Surrey and Sussex, including Ardingly, Cranmore and Christ’s Hospital. The individual rounds consisted of a Group Challenge, a Cross-Number puzzle, a Head-to-Head round and a final exciting Relay round, with competitors racing around the room passing questions and answers to one another. Knowing the level of ability of other schools, the team had decided that a top ten place would be creditable, so were overjoyed when their name was called out for third place! Thanks to the team of Rupert Oscroft, Alex McCheyne, Alex Sullivan and Annie Forman for this exciting result.

Year 6 Win Regional Netball Tournament

A fantastic performance by the Year 6 girls led them to victory in the ISA Regional Netball Tournament at Shoreham College on Friday 22nd January 2010. Because of extremely bad weather, the tournament was moved to the indoor court and the matches were shortened to fit them into the schedule.

In the opening match our girls faced the hosts Shoreham College, where we dominated the game and recorded a convincing 6-1 victory. This dominant play continued throughout the tournament and saw them win every game, scoring a total of 31 goals and conceding only 2!

They now look forward to travelling up to Warwickshire to compete in the ISA National Finals on March 24th.

Well done to; Alisha Bowen, Lucy Bycroft, Hermione Charlton, Emma Cording, Hayley Evans, Vicki Fudge, Georgia Jefferies and Ella Rousell for a superb team performance.
